Hyundai-Tucson-Unveil

When: October 2016

How Much: Rs 17- 22 lakh

Engine: 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbo-diesel, 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol

Competition:  Honda CR-V, Mahindra XUV 500, Tata Hexa

Showcased at 2016 Auto Expo, Hyundai India is all geared up to launch the new Tucson SUV in India in October this year. After the success of Hyundai Creta, the makers have reportedly fast-tracked the launch of the Tucson, and will be launched as locally assembled models right from the start. With a 50 percent localization, Tucson prices are likely to start at around Rs 17 lakh for the base petrol going up to Rs 22 lakh for the top-spec diesel.

The new Tucson is Hyundai’s only SUV which is not on sale yet in India. Currently in its third generation, the new car has attractive modern design that brings it in line with Hyundai’s biggest SUV – the Santa Fe. Known internally as the TL, the new Tucson gets Hyundai’s big new hexagonal grille up front, elongated headlamps that stretch all the way from the grille to the fenders and heavily stylised fog lamp enclosures that contain two individual lighting elements.

The five-seater Tucson fills the large gap between the Hyundai Creta and flagship Hyundai Santa Fe SUV, and will rival the Honda CR-V and top-end variants of the Mahindra XUV500 and the upcoming Tata Hexa.

For India, Hyundai will bring the Tucson in both petrol and diesel guises, with the petrol likely to be offered on only base variants. The model for India could get the 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol unit that is showcased at the Auto Expo. The diesel variant will be powered by Hyundai’s 2.0L (1,995 cc) four-cylinder turbo-diesel.

The company has designed this vehicle with a total length of 4475 mm along with a decent height of 1645 mm and a total width of 1850mm, which includes both external rear view mirrors. It also has a large wheelbase, which measures about 2670 mm that ensures a spacious cabin inside. The vehicle has a wheelbase of 2,670 mm, and offers a fuel tank capacity of 62-litres.

Hyundai Tucson wears an attractive body structure, which is fitted with a number of cosmetics for giving it a captivating appearance. Its strong and rugged overall structure is fitted with a number of external aspects that add to its overall appearance. To begin with the frontage, it looks quite aggressive with signature radiator grille, which is fitted with a few chrome plated slats. This grille is embossed with a prominent company insignia in the centre. The headlight cluster is in a trendy design and integrated with high intensity discharge (HID) headlamps that have washer function as well.

Inside the cabin Tucson looks quite familiar with conventional layout. Though, the soft-touch material quality and an 8-inch touchscreen display enhance its premium appeal. The SUV also comes loaded with several advanced comfort and connectivity features such as automatic parking, a smart powered tailgate, a blind spot assist system, drive mode selector, lane keeping assist, autonomous emergency braking, etc. This premium SUV, with 5-seat configuration, offers the best-in-class cabin space.
