Volkswagen has displayed the Polo R WRC Street edition at the 31st annual Worthersee gathering. The resort town of Worthersee hosts VW’s annual get together of performance and sporting Volkswagen cars.
The Polo R WRC Street I a limited-edition special, built to commemorate the impending competition debut of Volkswagen’s World Rally Championship contender. The Polo R WRC Street uses a 2.0-litre turbocharged and supercharged TSI motor, pushing out a tremendous 220 PS of power. It also gets larger alloy wheels, a new front air dam, rear spoiler and rear diffuser to distinguish it from its more humble cousins. It also has “R-WRC” logos on the sport seats and similar exterior badging.
The Polo R WRC Street’s power pales in comparison to the actual World Rally car, which has a 1.6-litre TSI engine producing a monumental 300 PS, good enough to vault it to 100 km/h in just 4.1 seconds.
The Polo R WRC Street will be produced in a limited edition run beginning next year. There’s little chance that Volkswagen will offer the Polo R WRC Street for sale in India, since the duties and taxes would prove just too prohibitive, but we hope the company shows it off as a show car at least!
