Toyota Prius Hybrid

Following notching up a spirited show in year-on-year sales figure global market for the month of April, Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) has once again registered a commendable performance through its hybrid vehicle section. Taken the combined sales figure of Toyota’s complete new-age hybrid models (including Lexus hybrids), the number has capped the iconic four million mark till the end of April, 2012 since their inception in 1997.

This year has witnessed a major boom in Toyota’s fortune as last one million mark of the total ‘four million’ figure has been achieved within the last 14 months alone! The craze for these sophisticated fuel-economy cars is rapidly gaining pace, as Toyota's managed to sell in excess of  425,000 hybrid units in the between January and April in the current year,  thus registering more than two-third growth as compared to the figure of 2011.

As of now, Toyota dishes out 19 hybrid passenger car models in 80 international markets. Toyota’s significant April, 2012 growth of 13.1% over the same period last year owes a great deal to the strong run of these models. 15% of TMC’s total global sales figure is occupied by these fuel-efficient cars. Considering the rising fuel cost across the globe, this is not a surprising at all. Moreover, improved performance and better fuel saving option have turned the vehicles into ‘show stoppers’ globally, especially on the US roads.

Going by the latest database, it is clearly visible that Prius, the 3rd generation hybrid model, has captured 50% of the total hybrids from all brands in the U.S. alone. Till April, 2012, its total sales count stood at 1.2 million units in that country.

Prius C has been dubbed as the world’s best fuel-efficient car with a mileage of over 35km/l. Clearly the mixture of electric and conventional fuel-based technique has helped it to score in a big way over its exclusive electric rivals. Moreover, the 35+ litre figure in fuel efficiency has boosted its sales stability.

"All of us at Toyota would like to sincerely thank our customers, who have made Prius the best-selling hybrid in the industry," said Bob Carter while commenting on the smooth drive of Prius batch in the market. He further reflected Toyota’s pledge to work in the direction of improving car performance, reducing running cost and saving the environment and added "While we're proud of this accomplishment, we are not stopping here as hybrids will continue to be a core technology for Toyota."
