Tata Motors has surely caught cold under the direct impact of prevailing rough weather in the auto world. If its latest sales volume is taken into consideration then this car maker surely needs some herculean effort to bring its rosy days back on track. In the passenger vertical, this major Indian car maker has bitten the dust by hitting a decline range of up to 46 percent, barring some bright spots, such as small wonder Nano, domestic LCV segment and UV range (Sumo/ Safari/ Aria/ Venture).

Tata Motors’ total sales count (including exports) comprising of both commercial and passenger vehicles in June 2012 stood at 64,341 units, lower by  three percent, as compared with June 2011 figure. The domestic sales performance of its commercial and passenger vehicles for last month hit 58,270 units, a decline of five percent, from previous year’s June performance when it delivered 61,266 cars.

Collective sales (including exports) of Tata Motors vehicles for the fiscal stood at 188,774 units, a tad decline of two percent, over 193,039 units, sold in the previous fiscal.

Commercial Vehicles

However, the overall image is not that bad in the commercial vehicle segment, especially in the domestic market where it found 41,026 customers last month, a four percent growth over same month last year when it sold 39,272 vehicles. The key player for registering positive outcome in the commercial vehicle zone is the LCV variant. Last month, Tata Motors’ LCV sales stood at 28,363 units, an increase of 22 percent, compared to 23,198 vehicles delivered in June, 2011.On the other hand, M&HCV put up a poor performance as its sales figure registered 12,663 units, a sharp fall of 21 percent, compared to 16,074 vehicles sold in June, last year.

While considering the fiscal sales figure comprising of cumulative commercial vehicles (CV) in the domestic market, it is well reflected that Tata Motors has delivered a tad improved performance of two percent from the previous fiscal’s. During this period, the collective CV sales figure has touched 115,298 nos. Here too, the LCV has filled the vacuum as created by the poor run of the M&HC segment; while LCV sales counted at 80,355 units (19 percent growth over last year), the M&HCV found 34,943 customers, a major fall of 23 percent, comparing the previous fiscal.

Passenger Vehicles

Cumulative sales figure of passenger vehicles for June 2012 has been counted at 17,244 units, a decline of 22 percent comparing 21,994 units, sold in June last year. However, Tata Nano was the exception in this lot as it found 5,605 takers last month, a commendable growth of three percent, while taking into consideration 5,452 Nanos, sold in the same month last year. Indica range sales were 5,332 nos., lower by 35 percent, over 8,188 nos., sold in June, last year. The Indigo range has received the maximum jolt, as its Year-on-Year sales performance as of June witnessed a devastating 46 percent jump, when it sold only 2,658 cars in this range, over 4,882 units, sold in the same month, last year. However, the UV segment, comprising of the Sumo/ Safari/ Aria/ Venture models has acted as the saviour as their total sales figure in June, 2012 was recorded at 3,649 units, up by five percent, comparing same month, last year when it was 3,472 nos.

Irrespective of the spirited performance, put up by mini wonder Nano, UV range, Tata Motors has witnessed loss in the overall passenger vehicle sales count as its cumulative sales volume registered 60,405 units, down by seven percent, compared to 65,108 cars, till June last year. Cumulative sales of the Nano and Indica are flat at 22,140 units and 17,712 units respectively. Congregated sales of the Indigo family are 9,724 units, a fall of 33 percent. Combined sales of the Sumo/Safari/ Aria/ Venture range are flat at 10,829 units.

Jaguar Land Rover sales in India has received a boost. In the Fiscal year 2011-12, Jaguar Land Rover India sold 2288 cars, over 891 cars in FY 2010-11 (an epic growth of 157% over the previous year) and 226 cars in FY 2009-10.

Exports

Comparing the export records considering June, 2012 and the fiscal, one can easily find two entirely contrasting images. In June alone, Tata Motors exported 6,071 vehicles in June 2012, an increase of are 19 percent as compared to 5,094 vehicles in June last year. On the contrary, the collective sales volume from exports for the fiscal stood at 13,071 cars, a decline of 12 percent comparing the same period last year when its export count comprised of 14,886 cars
