Renault India is working on plans to enter the used car business in the Indian car market. The company is presently evaluating a business case for multi-brand used car retail.
Commenting during the launch event of the new Renault Duster, Len Curran, VP Sales & Marketing, commented: “There’s definitely huge potential in the used car business in India. It is something we are looking at, but maybe a year or so from now.
We could call it ‘Renault Diamond’ possibly,” elaborated Curran, hinting at a name for the used car business which could draw a connection to the diamond-shaped Renault corporate logo.
Presently, Renault India is hard at work establishing its dealer footprint in the Indian car market, with four models, including the new Duster, already launched, and a fifth model (a mid-size sedan, based on the Nissan Sunny, tentatively called the Renault Scala) on the way before the end of the year.
The used car business would be a lucrative proposition for the French brand, as it seeks to lure customers and build market share. “In a year or so, we’ll possibly start to see some Dusters entering the used car market,” elaborated Curran. “We need to spot the opportunity and keep customers within the Renault family. Of course, extending the ‘Diamond’ programme to other brands would be a logical extension of this business.”

Second-hand Renault Dusters could become available in the Indian used car market in a year or so.
