Renault Duster launch confirmed for Wednesday, July 4th

Renault will launch its all-new Duster compact SUV in India on Saturday, July 7th. The eagerly-awaited Duster marks the fourth new product launch from the French car-maker, and its second launch in India in 2012.

The Renault Duster is expected to be available with three powertrain options: a 1.6-litre petrol engine with 5-speed manual gearbox and two-wheel drive, a 1.5-litre 85PS diesel with 5-speed manual gearbox and two-wheel drive, and a 105 PS diesel with a 6-speed manual gearbox and four-wheel drive. Prices will be announced at the Duster launch on July 7th, although by our estimate the range will start around the Rs 7.5 lakh mark for the base petrol variant.

With its combination of rugger good looks, SUV styling, good ground clearance and wide spread of variants, we expect the Renault Duster to be one of the success stories for 2012, and a vehicle which will really augment the Renault brand in India. Following up the Duster this year will be the new Nissan Sunny-based Renault Scala sedan, expected to be launched by the end of the year.

Auto Sales Stagnant Over Last 12 Months

It hasn't been the best of years for the Indian auto industry. Data compiled by the Society of Indian Autmobile Manufacturers (SIAM) shows that over the past 12 months, production has grown by just 1.2 %, from April 2012 till March 2013. The industry produced 1,685,355 vehicles in March 2013 as against 1,845,868 in March 2012, which declined by (-) 8.70 percent.
