Nissan launched a unique brand building exercise in November last year, auditioning wannabe future Bollywood stars and giving them a chance to star in a short film featuring none other than Nissan brand ambassador Ranbir Kapoor. The Nissan Star of India campaign was run exclusively on Facebook, making it as interactive as possible, and enabling participation of an audience totalling millions.
The Nissan Star of India campaign zoomed from 0 to 160,000 fans in six weeks flat, securing over 2,300 video auditions from around the country! From these, 100 were shortlisted, before the final 20 were chosen to star alongside Ranbir.
To make the movie truly collaborative and involve the public, the script, plot, background score and characters were shaped through polls and suggestions, all done on Nissan’s Facebook page. However, the Micra hatchback is the true star of the movie, featuring in most of the scenes. A lot of choreography and stunt direction was required to get the desired results, but autojunction.in has had a sneak peek, and it looks set to sizzle with India’s Bollymania-lapping janta.
For the record, the movie featured 32 Micras, 1 elephant (yes, you read that right), 20 future Bollywood stars and Ranbir Kapoor of course. The Nissan Star of India movie has been directed by Ahmed Khan and produced by Khalil Bachooali. The entire shoot was done at the Ramoji Film City on the outskirts of Hyderabad.
