india will host fia gt1 finale

India will host the finale of the FIA-sanctioned GT1 Series in December at the Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida. The GT1 Series is a sportscar racing championship, featuring racing versions of iconic sportscars from the world's most prestigious manufacturers. It is billed to become one of the biggest motorsporting series by dint of strong manufacturer support, especially since the visibility and competitive nature of the series promotes strong recall. BMW, Ferrari, Audi, Maserati, Chevrolet, Nissan, Mercedes, Lamborghini and Porsche are some of the manufacturers competing in the series. Each round usually consists of two races. For this year, McLaren is also entering the fray with its MP4-12C sportscar.

FIA GT1 Series boss Stephane Ratel said: "India completes the 2012 calendar in every way," he said. "It fulfils our ambition to continue to break new ground in global markets, taking world-class GT racing to new and exciting locations. To secure events in the three capital cities of the three fastest-growing markets for luxury cars is a major step forward."

Sameer Gaur, boss of the circuit-owning Jaypee Sports International organisation, said: "It is a matter of great pleasure for us to be a part of the FIA GT1 World Championship.

"Having hosted a hugely successful F1 race at BIC last October, we are fully prepared for another successful international race."
