With petrol prices journeying northwards at regular intervals and plaguing petrol engine car owners like an epidemic, a lot of new car buyers have started deciding in favour of buying diesel engine powered cars, thereby creating a huge demand for diesel car across the nation over the last 10-12 months.
In these circumstances, not having diesel engine cars in the stable can prove to be a huge handicap and severely hamper sales figures. Car manufacturers are working overtime to boost the production of diesel cars to meet this growing demand.
Speculations have been doing the rounds that Honda, which currently doesn’t sell any diesel models in India, is planning to advance the launch of its diesel Brio around Diwali. The company was initially planning to launch the diesel model of the hatchback by 2013. However, with the increasing demand for diesel cars and the subsequent hike in petrol prices, has prompted the company is advancing the launch of Honda Brio by Diwali this year.
Rumours are ripe that the company has already asked the R& D department to speed up the work, and if required, Honda may even go for a third party arrangement. Honda already has a 2.2-litre common-rail diesel engine and a 1.6-litre common-rail diesel engine in its portfolio. The Brio though is likely to get a 1.2 litre, three cylinder diesel engine and will become the first Honda car in India to have the diesel engine followed by City and Jazz.
