Prashanth-Tharani

Prashanth Tharani in Car No 9

Prashanth Tharani won the 1st race of the weekend after a flawless driving throughout the race. Following him closely for the entire race in 2nd place was Jeffrey Kruger who also held on to his position from start to finish. Rahil Noorani showed excellent comeback after qualifying in 5th, dropping to 6th and eventually managing to finish on podium in 3rd position.

Pole setter Prashanth Tharani defended his position and emerged victorious in Race 1 of Round 2 of Polo R Cup 2013. Jeffrey Kruger kept putting pressure on Prashanth throughout the race but the latter managed to keep his cool and handled the situation well. Rahil Noorani didn’t have the perfect qualifying yesterday and started from 5th. Angad Singh Matharoo overtook him at the start of the race putting him on the 6th spot in the first lap itself. However, he fought back and by lap 3, he was able to get into the 3rd position, which he held on till the end of the race.

Prithviraj Siddappa, Head of Motorsports, said, “The Race 1 today was an extremely exciting one to watch with quite a few overtakes throughout. It was interesting to see the mid-order drivers fighting ambitiously for the complete race and improving lap by lap. As usual, with the reverse grid, Race 2 will be exciting as ever and we expect some interesting results later in the afternoon.”

Prashanth Tharani, winner of Race 1, commented, “It was thrilling to take the pole position yesterday and even better to win the race today. My sponsors had surprised me with a lot of branding for me on my way to the track and that definitely contributed to the motivation that I had to win this race! I hope I can carry forward my good form and perform well in Race 2 as well.”

Jeffrey-Kruger

Jeffrey Krugerin in Car No 8

Jeffrey Kruger took top honours during Race 2 followed by Race 1 winner Prashanth Tharani. It turned out to be a great day for Yatin Magu who took the 3rd place on the podium, which happens to be his 1st ever podium finish. Rahil Noorani had crossed the finish line in 1st place, but was penalised with 20 seconds due to a jump start and thus ended up in 7th place.

Race 1 winner Prashanth started from 8th while 2nd finisher Jeffrey Kruger started from 7th. Having finished 3rd in Race 1, Rahil Noorani took off from 6th place and tried an aggressive start. He went from 6th place to 2nd on lap 1 and went into lead by the 2nd lap. However, he received a 20 seconds penalty for a jump start which pushed him down to 7th place. This automatically brought Jeffrey, Prashanth, Yatin and three others up by one place each. While Prashanth and Jeffrey have been regularly finishing on podium, it was the first one for Yatin Magu.

Prithviraj Siddappa, Head of Motorsports, said, “Race 2 was a great show as usual with the reverse grid. There were close battles throughout the race and it is always good to see the drivers pushing their limits further to produce better results every time. Also, despite the damages to our cars in Race 1, our technical team did a great job to bring all the cars back on the grid and I would like to congratulate them for a splendid job today.”

Jeffrey Kruger, winner of Race 2, commented, “It is wonderful to be on the top spot. After winning a race in Round 1, this is what I was looking forward to. Moreover, having secured a podium in each race till now, it encourages me to win more races.”
