Query

IN REGARD ENGINE POWER WHICH UNIT SHOULD I CONSIDER - TOURQUE OR BHP ?

Asked by SUJOY KEMAR DAS on 19-06-2012

Answer

Dear Sujoy, Both Torque and BHP are indicative of the characteristics of an engine. A high-revving engine will usually produce more power at the upper end of its rev range, but will fall a little short when it comes to low-end torque. High torque is preferable in SUVs and large sedans where the weight of the vehicle is greater. Similarly, high-torque, low-revving engines, like most big diesels, will have higher torque at lower rpm but not much top-end power. Such engines tend to feel strained when cruising at speed on he highway.
